drape and tassel dome/cloche
From covering cakes, scones, salads and even just protecting fruit from pesky flies in hot weather this cover has become an invaluable piece in our kitchen armoury. These domes/cloches are statement pieces in their own right and we hope that they will become heirloom items in time.
Drapes, swags, tassels, cascades, curtains, call it what you want – we call it our drape and tassel design and in this dome/cloche it has the nickname "wedding cake" – but however you describe it it’s one of our favourites. Chunky yes but with a delicacy about it that gives it a charmingly vintage feel but with a very modern usability... The size of the drapes and tassels will stay the same regardless of the size of the dome you choose - just the amount needed to go around the outside will change!
The dome/cloche is very robust and weighty, with a slightly raised middle, with a wonderfully chunky handle which is decorated with tassels too.
Remember too that the dome is totally handmade and while we make every effort to make it level we should warn you that it won’t be airtight - we say it adds to the charm and unique style of our pottery.
Our drape and tassel domes come in three sizes:
- small (ideal for something like cheese, perhaps fruit, biscuits, sandwiches) - £160
- medium (standard size cake, salads, cupcakes, brownies, quiche etc) - £200
- large (for example a good-sized/larger cake, joint of meat, crumble, pie) - £225
NOW PICK THE PERFECT BASE!
Included in the price, you can choose from either a plate style base or a shallow-style dish! The options are slightly different depending on the size dome/cloche you choose but we like to think we're allowing you to have chunky-china-pick-a-mix and your own unique piece!

Marigold and Lettice pottery is (hand)made to be loved and used, and happily goes in the oven, dishwasher and microwave. Our chunky china has a very different look and feel to mass-produced pottery; each piece is handmade so expect to see thumb prints and perfectly imperfect glazing - it’s what makes our pottery unique and full of character.
Getting your perfect piece to you is our priority but as each piece is made to order (we don't hold any pieces in stock), the process takes a MINIMUM OF THREE TO FOUR WEEKS although this is just a guide and if it goes over please bear with us.
Please note that because each piece is unique the design will be different from the one in the picture – similar but unique.
please note that this is an approximate size as each is handmade so may be slightly different size wise!

Marigold and Lettice pottery
Marigold and Lettice pottery is made to be used, loved and enjoyed; it’s made using sturdy earthenware clay and a thick white glaze. This means it’s hard-wearing and every piece can safely go in the oven, dishwasher, microwave and even the freezer.
Each piece that is made by Marigold and Lettice is totally handmade and a one-off. So, if you see thumb prints in the clay or the glaze that may be thicker in some parts than others, it's because each piece is unique and is what gives our chunky china its specialness, and a different look and feel to mass-produced pottery.
When you first get your chunky china piece you may hear a ‘ping’ - especially the first time the pottery meets with water. If you do, please don’t worry, it's really quite normal and will stop as soon as the glaze/clay settles down together. You may also notice that the bottom of every piece is left unglazed, and this may leave a slight residue on your shelves, but can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth.
Like with all china, over time you may also notice signs of use in the glaze, but these are just signs of the china being well-loved. If this is the case, please be assured, the piece will still be perfectly fine to use.
