pearl drops dome/cloche
  • pearl drops dome/cloche

From covering cakes, scones, salads and even just protecting fruit from pesky flies in hot weather this cover has become an invaluable piece in our kitchen armoury. These domes/cloches are statement pieces in their own right and we hope that they will become heirloom items in time.

What could be better than chunky china surrounded by pearly swags and cascades? I know, we can’t think of anything either! Chunky yes but with a delicacy about the pearls that gives it a charmingly vintage, almost regal feel, but with a very modern usability. Now, the size of the pearly swags and cascades will stay the same regardless of the size of the dome you choose - just the amount needed to go around the outside will change!

The dome/cloche is very robust and weighty, with a slightly raised middle, with a wonderfully chunky handle which is decorated with pearly drops too.

Remember too that the dome is totally handmade and while we make every effort to make it level we should warn you that it won’t be airtight - we say it adds to the charm and unique style of our pottery.

Our pearl drops domes come in three sizes:

    • small (ideal for something like cheese, perhaps fruit, biscuits, sandwiches) - £160
    • medium (standard size cake, salads, cupcakes, brownies, quiche etc) - £200
    • large (for example a good-sized/larger cake, joint of meat, crumble, pie) - £225

Included in the price, you can choose from either a plate style base or a shallow-style dish! The options are slightly different depending on the size dome/cloche you choose but we like to think we're allowing you to have chunky-china-pick-a-mix and your own unique piece!

    • Small dome options - chunky plate or shallow bowl*
    • Medium dome options - crown plate or shallow bowl*
    • Large dome options - oversized flat plat or shallow bowl*

    * also makes a perfect serving dishes for pasta/salad dishes!

The options are endless and we’re always happy to discuss a bespoke one just for you. Email us at

Marigold and Lettice pottery is (hand)made to be loved and used, and happily goes in the oven, dishwasher and microwave. Our chunky china has a very different look and feel to mass-produced pottery; each piece is handmade so expect to see thumb prints and perfectly imperfect glazing - it’s what makes our pottery unique and full of character.

Getting your perfect piece to you is our priority but as each piece is made to order (we don't hold any pieces in stock), the process takes a MINIMUM OF THREE TO FOUR WEEKS although this is just a guide and if it goes over please bear with us.

Please note that because each piece is unique the design will be different from the one in the picture – similar but unique.

    • Marigold and Lettice pottery

Marigold and Lettice pottery is made to be used, loved and enjoyed; it’s made using sturdy earthenware clay and a thick white glaze. This means it’s hard-wearing and every piece can safely go in the oven, dishwasher, microwave and even the freezer.

Each piece that is made by Marigold and Lettice is totally handmade and a one-off. So, if you see thumb prints in the clay or the glaze that may be thicker in some parts than others, it's because each piece is unique and is what gives our chunky china its specialness, and a different look and feel to mass-produced pottery.

When you first get your chunky china piece you may hear a ‘ping’ - especially the first time the pottery meets with water.  If you do, please don’t worry, it's really quite normal and will stop as soon as the glaze/clay settles down together.  You may also notice that the bottom of every piece is left unglazed, and this may leave a slight residue on your shelves, but can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth.

Like with all china, over time you may also notice signs of use in the glaze, but these are just signs of the china being well-loved. If this is the case, please be assured, the piece will still be perfectly fine to use.
