Scattered with small 3-D strawberries this large mug hold a glorious amount (give or take 450ml!) and is chunky enough to be chunky, but not so chunky that you can't get your lips around it!!!
The strawberries are all hand painted and the glazed effect is quite lovely - perfectly imperfect reds with a green stalk. Please note they aren't mass-produced, transfer painted or identical but they are all full of character!
WHAT MAKES IT A SECOND...
Attaching two elements of clay — like the handle on this strawberry mug — always carries a bit of risk. I build in extra support and carefully blend the seam, but occasionally, despite my best efforts, things don’t go quite to plan.
In this case, a small cosmetic split has appeared where the handle joins the body. It’s purely surface-level, and the handle is securely attached at both the top and bottom (for reference, the top join is where most of the strength comes from). The whole piece is also fully glazed, adding further strength — but the split is visible.
On top of that, a few little flecks of red glaze have wandered from the berries — nothing structural, just a few unplanned pops of colour. Let’s call it added character.
The mug is absolutely safe and functional - but in light of these cosmetic quirks, it’s been discounted by 50%.
Caring for your pottery:
Marigold and Lettice pottery is made from white earthenware clay and designed to be used and enjoyed every day. We personally use our pieces in the oven, dishwasher, and microwave. However, to prolong the life of your pottery, handwashing is the gentler choice, as dishwashers can be tough on handmade items due to high-pressure jets and strong detergents and may overtime cause damage and speed up any grazing in the glaze.
While we do microwave our own pieces, for longevity we suggest heating food in the oven where possible.
I M P O R T A N T I N F O R M A T I O N
Our china looks and feels very (very) different to mass-produced pottery; it’s not fine or delicate, but wonderfully chunky and full of texture, you’ll see thumb prints, makers marks, glaze specks/drips and heaps of individuality. We call it perfectly imperfect pottery and firmly believe it’s all the better for it!
