The problem with being a potter? Too many ideas… and not enough shelf space. Over the years, I’ve made (and kept!) so many pieces I’ve loved - but with kitchen shelves groaning and space running out, I’ve decided it’s time to (grudgingly) part with a small selection from my personal collection.
These are pre-loved, gently used, and full of character - and they’re all being offered at a discounted price to reflect that.
This classical bust-style vase is one of my favourites.
I’ve always adored the look of traditional sculptural head vases, but could never find one that was chunky enough - they all felt a bit too mainstream. So, in true Marigold & Lettice fashion, I decided to make my own (although they are no longer on offer on the website as, honestly, they aren’t that much fun to make!!)
I took a cast from a large doll’s head to help me shape the base/vase then I sculpted the nose, mouth, eyes, eyebrows, ears, hair and earrings individually - making each one totally unique.
This piece stands 19cm tall at the front (17cm at the back), and measures approx. 16cm wide by 14cm deep. She’s got real presence - and real weight.
You’ll notice in the photos a couple of small cosmetic quirks: a bit of gritty clay on the face that made its way into the glaze, and an area where the glaze thinned slightly. Neither affects function - they’re purely surface details.
Pre-loved, full of personality...
This vase has lived a full life with us - sometimes as a flower vase, sometimes a utensil holder, and recently just watching over things from the top shelf as part of my ever-growing collection of ceramic ‘heads’ - a rogue’s gallery but in pottery if you like.
The inside is fully glazed and watertight, but the base is unglazed - so if you’re using it for fresh flowers, do pop something underneath to protect your surface, just in case.
Reflecting its pre-loved status and minor imperfections, it’s been reduced by 35%.

** Once it has water in it - please place it only on water-resistant surfaces. We recommend using a coaster or mat for extra protection.
Caring for your pottery:
Marigold and Lettice pottery is made from white earthenware clay and designed to be used and enjoyed every day. We personally use our pieces in the oven, dishwasher, and microwave. However, to prolong the life of your pottery, handwashing is the gentler choice, as dishwashers can be tough on handmade items due to high-pressure jets and strong detergents and may overtime cause damage and speed up any grazing in the glaze.
While we do microwave our own pieces, for longevity we suggest heating food in the oven where possible.
I M P O R T A N T I N F O R M A T I O N
Our china looks and feels very (very) different to mass-produced pottery; it’s not fine or delicate, but wonderfully chunky and full of texture, you’ll see thumb prints, makers marks, glaze specks/drips and heaps of individuality. We call it perfectly imperfect pottery and firmly believe it’s all the better for it!
