Swanning around roasting dish

Swanning around roasting dish

Roasting dishes don't have to be boring and functional; they can be pretty and functional too! Take for example these swanning around Swan! Perfect for oven to table dining - and deceptively deep so perfect for a pie or crumble too. We call them roasting dishes but they would be just as fab with a salad in it, or being used on the sideboard as a fruit bowl.   What ever you serve up will most certainly make the food inside taste blooming yummy!

Our new swan 🦢range literally ticks all our boxes – white ✅ chunky ✅, unique ✅, splash of colour which only serves to make the white pop even more ✅✅✅!!!  Most of us know that Queen Elizabeth II technically owns all of the unclaimed swans in open water in England and Wales and we'd say that these vases are literally fit for royalty!

Now, each roaster will be different because, well each swan is slightly different. The  🦢beaks are handpainted orange and black: expect each one to be slightly different as the glaze takes on its own character in the kiln - no transfer printed or block made for us.  We love that even more, but exact replicas they aren’t so please expect them to have their own characters (perfectly imperfect as always).

The roasting dishes come in a variety of sizes meaning there is a dish for whatever is on the menu: round, rectangle and oval. They might be beautiful but they are very useable too as they all go in the dishwasher, oven etc.

Getting your perfect piece to you is our priority but as each piece is made to order (we don't hold any pieces in stock), it takes at least three weeks to handmake, fire and glaze each piece of chunky china. That is just a guide though; while we aim for under, three weeks is the norm - it will be worth the wait so if it's four weeks+ please bear with us.

Please note that because each piece is unique the design will be different from the one in the picture – similar but unique.

  • Marigold and Lettice pottery

Marigold and Lettice pottery is made to be used, loved and enjoyed; it’s made using sturdy earthenware clay and a thick white glaze. This means it’s hard-wearing and every piece can safely go in the oven, dishwasher, microwave and even the freezer.

Each piece that is made by Marigold and Lettice is totally handmade and a one-off. So, if you see thumb prints in the clay or the glaze that may be thicker in some parts than others, it's because each piece is unique and is what gives our chunky china its specialness, and a different look and feel to mass-produced pottery.

When you first get your chunky china piece you may hear a ‘ping’ - especially the first time the pottery meets with water.  If you do, please don’t worry, it's really quite normal and will stop as soon as the glaze/clay settles down together.  You may also notice that the bottom of every piece is left unglazed, and this may leave a slight residue on your shelves, but can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth.

Like with all china, over time you may also notice signs of use in the glaze, but these are just signs of the china being well-loved. If this is the case, please be assured, the piece will still be perfectly fine to use.
